Amanda Cismesia
Fundraising Event Coordinator
In addition to her volunteer work with the Superhero Center, Amanda serves as a Behavioral Health Policy Advisor for the State of Illinois. Amanda has a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, a master’s degree in Marital and Family Therapy, and has provided behavioral health services for over 20 years, with an emphasis on substance use treatment.
Amanda was born and raised in the Rockford area and enjoys giving back to her community. As a mom to Hannah and Audrey, Amanda has learned so much from Audrey about how to connect with children with autism and special needs and from Hannah about empathy and compassion. At one year old Audrey was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms, a severe type of seizure disorder with no known cause. Audrey was subsequently diagnosed with autism at 3 years of age.
The Superhero Center has been a place of respite, acceptance, and support for our family, and we love connecting with the other families and friends in this community.
Our beloved Audrey passed away in 2023, and volunteering at the Superhero Center offers an opportunity to remain connected to Audrey, her friends and community, and to give back to a place for other kiddos with special needs like Audrey.
